Wyndham’s annual light show held in Wyndham park is lighting up the streets, but for residents living at 70 Cottrell Street, the event has sparked a major parking headache.
The building, which houses around 70 residents, already struggles with limited parking, and the influx of visitors to the nearby lit light show has made the situation even more frustrating.
The apartment complex has just a handful of dedicated lock-up parking spaces at the back of the building, leaving many residents to rely on street parking for their daily needs.
However, with the light show drawing large crowds, residents are now being forced to park up to three blocks away from their home, adding extra time and inconvenience to their evening routines.
To make matters worse, an un-offical small parking area located directly across the street from the building, which would otherwise serve as a convenient spot for residents, has become a point of contention.
While it seems to be available space to park in, residents who have parked there have been hit with fines. Despite this, those visiting the light show, many of whom have parked in the same spots across the road, have not received any fines.
Frustrated residents are speaking out, highlighting the disparity in enforcement. They argue that it is unfair for them to face fines while visitors attending the event seem to have been given a free pass, looking the other way.
Locals have voiced concerns that, while the light show brings excitement to the area, it has exacerbated an already difficult parking situation that residents have to deal with on a daily basis.
Community members of the building are urging local authorities and council to review the parking policies, ensuring fair treatment for the residents who live in the area and face these parking issues year-round.
As the light show continues, it remains to be seen if any changes will be made to alleviate the parking stress for those who call Cottrell Street home.
