Werribee South Beach Set For $2.99 Million Transformation

Wyndham Council has unanimously approved a $2.99 million contract to Ace Landscape Services Pty tp deliver the first stage of the Werribee South Beach Masterplan, including new shared paths, upgraded lighting and a timber viewing platform. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and be completed by June 2027.

Werribee South Beach is set for a major upgrade after Wyndham councillors unanimously approved a $2.99 million construction contract for the first stage of a long-planned transformation of the coastal precinct.

Ace Landscape Services Pty Ltd was awarded the contract at Council’s 14 July Planning Committee meeting, clearing the way for construction to begin in September and continue through to June 2027.

The project forms the first stage of the Werribee South Beach Masterplan and will focus on improving access, safety and visitor facilities across one of Wyndham’s best-known coastal destinations.

Among the most significant additions will be a new shared walking and cycling path, which is expected to provide a safer and more accessible connection through the beach area.

The works will also include upgraded solar-powered lighting and a timber viewing platform overlooking Grahams Wetland Reserve and the Werribee River estuary.

Together, the improvements are intended to make the precinct easier to navigate while giving residents and visitors more opportunities to enjoy the coastline, wetlands and surrounding natural environment.

The viewing platform will create a new vantage point across the reserve and estuary, while the shared path and lighting upgrades are expected to improve access for walkers and cyclists throughout the day.

Werribee South Beach is already a popular destination for families, swimmers, cyclists, anglers and visitors from across Melbourne’s west. The surrounding wetlands and river estuary also form an important part of Wyndham’s natural landscape and support a wide range of birdlife and other wildlife.

Councillors unanimously endorsed the contract, with Cr Jasmine Hill describing the project as an exciting investment in one of Wyndham’s most loved natural attractions.

She says the upgrades would make it easier and safer for residents and visitors to enjoy the beach and surrounding environment.

“Werribee South is one of Wyndham’s most unique and treasured assets,” said Hill

“People can connect with nature, spend time at the beach with family and friends and develop an even greater appreciation for our coastline and wetlands.” she said.

The contract attracted interest from six companies, with each tender assessed on price, capability, experience and proposed delivery methodology.

Ace Landscape Services achieved the highest overall evaluation score and was selected to carry out the works, which will be funded through Council’s adopted 2026–27 capital works budget.

The approval marks a significant step forward for the Werribee South Beach Masterplan and will deliver the first visible improvements under the broader plan for the precinct.

Once completed, the new path, lighting and viewing platform are expected to provide safer access, improve the visitor experience and strengthen the connection between the beach, wetlands and river estuary.

The foreshore was reserved by the Crown for public purposes in 1880, but its development as a fishing and recreational area began during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
