Sunbury Show Returns October 12 In Its 102nd Year

The Sunbury Show now in its 102nd year kicks off this Saturday (12/10/2024) at Sunbury Recreation Reserve (Clarke Oval) featuring animals, rides, competitions, and live entertainment from local school choirs and dance groups. Committee secretary Narelle Reino says the event has a strong community focus

The upcoming 2024 Sunbury Show runs from 8.30am–5pm on Saturday, October 12 at Sunbury Recreation Reserve (Clarke Oval) and promises to be a vibrant celebration of community spirit

Picture this: a day filled with live performances from our talented local school choirs and dynamic dance groups, all showcasing the incredible talent our area has to offer.

It’s not just about the music and dance; the show will be a delightful spectacle for animal lovers, featuring everything from a charming petting zoo to thrilling competitions like the dog high jump and the ever-adorable pet parade.

Let’s not forget the horse and cattle shows, which capture the essence of our rural roots by celebrating the deep bond between humans and animals, showcasing the skill and dedication of local farmers

Narelle Reino, the Sunbury Agricultural Show committee secretary, perfectly encapsulates the essence of the event emphasising its community focus.

She says this year’s show includes a community hub, hosted at a pavilion room provided by the Sunbury Bowling Club, which will give local community groups an opportunity to promote their organisations and seek members.

“The Sunbury Connected Communities and the Bendigo Bank, they’ve actually made all of our pavilion entries free to everyone this year, trying to really reconnect with the community, with the schools, and the older generation, because after COVID, even the entries were down considerably,” Ms Reino said.

It’s clear that the Sunbury Show isn’t just a gathering; it’s a heartfelt reminder of what makes the local community special along with retaining the charm of a traditional agricultural show.

“We have an amazing MC, we do [a] gumboot throwing toss, we try and do a tug-of-war … it’s going back to the old games that they used to play … it’s our 102nd show this year,” said Reino

“We’ve got free trail bags as well for the kids, there are 500 of them … there’s drinks, there’s food, there’s toys that they can pick up around the area, and that has all come from the local communities.” she said.
