Over 61 coaches will transport the Scouts along the Hume Highway for the long journey north, an adventure in itself as Scouts bond, share stories, and prepare for the unforgettable experiences ahead. The massive logistical effort is the beginning of an event packed with challenges, growth opportunities, fun and excitement.
What is a Jamboree?
The Australian Jamboree (AJ) has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1934. It’s a large-scale camp organised every four years by Scouts Australia.
Traditionally held in early January, the event spans ten nights and offers an unforgettable experience for Scouts across the country. Each Scouting Branch (State) serves as the host, managing the event’s planning and operations.
The Jamboree combines a mix of on-site and off-site activities, designed to challenge participants, foster personal growth, and deliver life-changing learning opportunities. It’s a chance for Scouts to connect, explore, and create lasting memories.
For the young people attending, AJ2025 is more than just a camp—it’s a life-changing experience. Over the course of the event, Scouts will tackle activities designed to build resilience, leadership, and teamwork while having the time of their lives.
Whether testing their limits on high ropes, discovering STEM innovations, or making friends from across the globe, this Jamboree will help shape the next generation of leaders.
The Purpose of a Jamboree
A Jamboree aims to offer young people an engaging program that fosters active participation and self-directed learning. Through a variety of activities, it supports their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, character, and spiritual development—both individually and collectively.
By focusing on character-building experiences, the Jamboree helps participants cultivate the qualities of good character as outlined in the Scout Promise and Law.
Youth member, Sarah from Geelong shared her excitement, “I’m so excited to meet Scouts from across Australia and the world. AJ2025 is about stepping out of your comfort zone, and I can’t wait to try new things like the flying fox and rafting,”
“This is going to be the best experience of my life!” Harry from Tyabb said “I think the Jamboree will be fun, fun, fun, fun and fun.” said Sarah
Making this incredible event possible are hundreds of volunteers from Victoria, other states, and overseas who dedicate their time and expertise to ensure a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for every Scout. The volunteers don’t just facilitate activities; they play a vital role in mentoring youth and guiding them to grow and thrive.

Rod Byrnes, Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria, emphasised the impact of volunteers. “AJ2025 isn’t just transformative for our youth; it’s equally rewarding for our adult volunteers,”
“They witness the growth of young people firsthand, build friendships with fellow leaders, and develop skills that extend beyond Scouting. Volunteering at an event like this is a chance to give back, connect, and be part of something extraordinary.”
“For many adults, volunteering at the Jamboree provides unique opportunities to hone leadership, problem-solving, and event management skills while being part of a team that supports the next generation,” said Byrnes
The Victorian Contingent is the largest and most enthusiastic at AJ2025, showcasing the state’s strong Scouting culture and commitment to youth development.
From rural communities to cities, Scouts from every corner of Victoria are coming together to represent their state and live out the Jamboree’s theme: “Your Quest, Your Way.” Over the next 10 days, AJ2025 will be alive with stories of personal triumph, team successes, and unforgettable moments.
