Over 50 mature marijuana plants went up in flames in a house fire in Werribee just after 6 am on Wednesday morning.
Multiple calls were reported to Triple Zero (000) advising a single storey brick house immersed in flames.
Nearly 30 FRV firefighters responded to the incident.
FRV crews arrived on the scene and, wearing breathing apparatus, extinguished the flames, bringing the fire under control by 6:35 am.
Firefighters remained at the scene to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished and that the site was safe as the house suffered significant damage from the fire.
At the height of the incident, there were 9 FRVs on site, including five Bombs, a Rescue Unit and an Air Unit.
The back area around the kitchen was quite a bit of wood and quickly burst into flames that spread to the side of the house and adjacent fence.
