A man has been charged after an alleged chainsaw attack on a home in Point Cook, with police alleging the incident escalated from damage to a front door into further destruction of vehicles in a nearby street.
Officers from Westgate Highway Patrol were called to Hyde Park Terrace about 1.15pm on Thursday 12 February after reports a 43-year-old man was damaging the front door of a property.
Footage posted to social media—and later reported by local and metropolitan outlets—appears to show the man repeatedly striking a security door, first with an axe and a machete before cutting through it with a chainsaw.
A 35-year-old man was inside the house at the time but was not injured. Police say it is understood the parties involved were known to each other.
Investigators also allege the man left the address and damaged multiple vehicles parked nearby on Friar Park Place.
The Point Cook man has been charged with two counts of causing criminal damage, two counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of unlawful assault. He has been bailed to appear at Wyndham Magistrates’ Court on 30 April.
Police enquiries are ongoing, and officers are urging anyone with information—or anyone who captured relevant CCTV or dashcam footage in the area around the time of the incident—to come forward
