Emergency services were called to the intersection of Windermere Road, Mill Road and McIntyre Road about 1.10am after reports a car had crashed and rolled.
Police are investigating the circumstances of a fatal accident that occurred in Lara this morning leaving a woman deceased.
Upon police arrival the woman was located in the vehicle and suspected she had died at the scene.
The other occupant of the car, a man, has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are headed to the scene and the road is expected to be blocked for some time.
The occupants details have yet to be released.
There have been 99 deaths on Victoria’s roads so far this year, compared to 87 at the same time last year. (up 13.8%)
