Improved Mobile Connectivity Planned For Werribee and Melbourne’s Western Suburbs

Latest Posts

Improved mobile connectivty and new telco infrastructure upgrades planned for Werribee and surrounding areas between 2023 and 2026.

Upgrades include the poor reception areas around Saltwater Estate in Point Cook and the Werribee Police Station.

Through the Connecting Victoria program, the Labor Government is partnering with Optus and TPG Telecom to construct a new 5G mobile tower and upgrade four existing towers to 5G in Werribee, Werribee South, and Point Cook, all of which is said to provide improved service over a 115-square-kilometer area.

Coverage areas include:

  • Werribee South
  • Wyndham Vale
  • Derrimut
  • Hoppers Crossing
  • Mount Cottrell
  • Point Cook
  • Ravenhall
  • Rockbank
  • Tarneit
  • Truganina

Melbourne’s outer west has seen five new 5G mobile towers and five upgraded towers in Tarneit, and Business Fibre Zones in Rockbank, Mount Cottrell, and Tarneit are improving broadband connectivity.

At these sites, Optus and TPG Telecom will share infrastructure, providing local residents with a choice of mobile service providers and improving competition.

More than 11,000 people in Victoria responded to the Connecting Victoria engagement report released earlier this year, stressing the importance of better mobile and broadband connections.

According to the report, mobile services in Melbourne’s west must be upgraded in order to keep pace with population growth, allow more remote working, and promote community inclusion.

The shared infrastructure in these locations enables users to select from multiple providers and increases competition among mobile providers. Residents have been demanding improved mobile and broadband connectivity in Victoria, and the Government has responded.

It outlined the demand for better mobile services in the areas of Werribee and the surrounding territory to keep pace with population growth, support remote working, and build community inclusion.

The Connecting Victoria initiative has a budget of $550 million and aims to fast-track mobile coverage and broadband access across the state.

Minister for Innovation, Medical Research and the Digital Economy Jaala Pulford says the outer west of Melbourne is developing rapidly

We are building infrastructure and delivering upgrades to support these communities which will boosting the local economy and produce more jobs.

TPG Telecom Head of Infrastructure Strategy & Integrated Planning Paul Tremlett says we are pleased to be able to invest with the Victorian Government to help more people and businesses in Melbourne’s outer west stay connected.
