Second time in six months child escapes and found wandering from the Nido Early School childcare centre in Werribee

Relatives of Two-year-old Maisie have have criticised a Werribee childcare centre, Nido Early School. It’s the second indecent in 6 months at the childcare centre when a child was found wondering outside it’s security perimeter alone.

With her grandfather furious and mother left shaken the family is demanding answers.

A note was sent out to parents advising the child was left unattended however, her grandfather claimed the truth is she managed to escape via an unlocked gate and was found wondering along a path situated along the childcare centre alone.

Maise’s mum Katrin Reed echoed these concerns, explaining that her daughter had managed to leave the childcare centre and get into a busy public carpark that leads onto a main road.

Katrin says she is “beyond disgusted”, claiming staff were unaware she was gone and only advised her of what had occurred an hour later.

“No staff realised in the three minutes she wasn’t in the centre and luckily it was at 9.34am when another parent was dropping their child and saw her,” she said on Facebook.

“A staff member that I have a good relationship with advised me, but it wasn’t even the centre manager, it was someone who wasn’t even at work when this occurred, which really upset me,” she told Herald Sun.

Nido Early School hasn’t answered media enquires and have told parents that an investigation is underway and the education department have been informed.

Investigation Is Underway

The Victoria Department of Education has confirmed it is investigating.

“The Department of Education and Training is investigating a report of an unsupervised child at Nido Early School yesterday,” a spokesperson said.

“The health and safety of all children in early childhood centres is our top priority.

“As the matter is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this time.”

“The service is working closely with the family, educators, and the Department of Education and Training to investigate the situation and make all relevant changes to process moving forward,” it wrote.
