Attendees heard Werribee’s new four-storey police complex will “transform” policing in the area
The Werribee Police Complex is the first facility to be built within the broader Wyndham Justice Precinct. The district provides integrated services to the Wyndham community that align police, court, health and community services.
It has now been formally opened by Chief Commissioner Shane Patton and Police Minister Lisa Neville.
The official opening took place at 10.30 am on Tuesday the 12th of April and was also attended by Member for Werribee Tim Pallas MP, Wyndham Mayor Cr Peter Maynard, Assistant Commissioner Brett Curran, Member for Lalor Joanne Ryan MP, and Cr Susan McIntyr
Designed as an gateway building for the Justice Precinct, the Werribee Police Complex plays an important role in the evolution of the urban environment with its wide podium facade and vertically expressed upper levels forming a visible architectural landmark for the police station.
The building presents a strong civic profile with the main street interface connecting with an integrated landscape and entry into both the building and precinct
An innovation in Victorian Police Station design, the brand new Werribee Police Complex spans 6000m2 making it one of the largest police facilities in the state housing over 460 + staff and officers.
Servicing Melbourne’s Western Suburbs, the functional, modern and flexible police complex design is part of the new Wyndham Justice Precinct and sees an integration into the wider Wyndham community, aligning policing, court services with health and council services.
This is part of the government’s record $3 billion investment in policing, which is giving Victoria Police the resources, powers and laws it needs to keep the Victorian community safe.
As part of this investment, more than 1900 of the Andrews Labor Government’s 3135 new police have already been deployed or allocated across the state, including 93 to the Westgate Division, which includes Wyndham.
In a recent media release labor member Tim Pallas said, our hard-working Wyndham police provide around-the-clock service to the local community and deserve to work out of a modern and purpose-built facility
“This will be one of the largest police facilities outside Melbourne, as we invest in more and more frontline and specialist police to support Melbourne’s booming western suburbs.”
“We are backing Victoria Police with better facilities, more frontline police and stronger laws so that the force can better protect and serve the community,” he said
